Texas Upland Game
Bird Stamp Print
by Scott and Stuart Gentling
The spring turkey mating ritual between
hens and gobblers make possible an entire hunting genre.
By imitating hen calls, thousands of Texas hunters each
spring attempt to lure wary turkey gobblers into shotgun
range. Even when the tactic fails, the hunters are still
treated to a rare springtime ballet danced across a
verdant field decorated by wild flowers. Proceeds from
artwork previously known as the Texas Turkey Stamp have
funded the largest eastern turkey restoration project
in America. This year, the Texas Turkey Stamp was reconfigured
as the Texas Upland Game Bird Stamp that will be required
for those who hunt turkeys, quail, pheasants and chachalacas.
Scott and Stuart Gentling share a lifelong
passion for wildlife and art. Both brothers began a
serious study of art at age 14 and are best known for
their drybrush watercolors of landscapes, still lifes
and portraits. The Texas Audubon Society designated
the Gentlings as the Centennial Artists. They also painted
art for the 2004 Texas Waterfowl Stamp Print.
A special Conservation Edition will be
made available to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
There will be 100 Artist's Proofs.
